queen beatrix opens exhibition in oranienbaum

her majesty the queen of the netherlands will open te exhibition ‘dutch design - house of orange’ together with the federal president of germany, christian wulff, on the 25th of april in oranienbaum palace.
the exhibition opening will also see the opening of the newly restored parts of the palace, which is located in the area of saksen-anhalt. (…) henriette catharina of anhalt-dessau, princess of orange-nassau, received the estate in 1660 from her husband - which she named after her origins - and had the palace built by a dutch architect.

in summer 2012 the entire oranienbaum palace, one of the official houses of the royal family oranje-nassau and former residence of a princess of oranje, will come alive with excellent craft. the exhibition will include furniture, fashion, accessories and jewellery as well as works in fabric, ceramics and glass.
contemporary work by prominent dutch designers such as viktor & rolf, gijs bakker, hella jongerius, marcel wanders, jan taminiau, spijkers & spijkers and many others as well as work by many upcoming talents will be shown alongside items from the dutch royal archives and portraits of the royal family.
among original ornaments and murals the palace will be brought back to its former glory.

the palace’s restoration is supported by the joint patronage of queen beatrix and the preseident of germany.

cabinet of prints: fashion designs for the house of orange

many couturiers design for the house of orange. but frans hoogendoorn, the man who’s clients include princess maxima, many ladies at court and ambassador’s wives, has a unique position in the dutch couture scene. the couturier has been approached by the curator of the exhibition in oranienbaum to present his designs for the house of orange. a dream come true for frans hoogendoorn!

the original cabinet of prints will show many fahsion designs; designs with beautiful details showing off the master’s skill. frans hoogendoorn, who is highly skilled with materials and textures, also shows his love for intricate details in this selection of drawings.

opening crystal and mirror chamber in oranienbaum palace

over the past years the crystal and mirror chamber in oranienbaum palace has been carefully restored. on request of the curator the room will be furnished with unique pieces by the artist bernhard heesen from on the 26th of april. for the opening of the crystal chamber this robust craftsman will make many objects in his glass manufacturing centre near Leerdam.
Come and admire the glass and crystal on show in the palace and listen to the history of this exceptional collecting room. From on the 1st of March you can book a ‘Crystal and Porcelain’ tour of Oranienbaum Palace.

where is it still possible to buy work directly from the designers and craft professionals themselves? where can one experience a pure passion for craftsmanship? at ‘meesterlijk’ (masterlful), the trade fair for contemporary design and applied arts. a minimum of 80.000 visitors will be introduced to unique objects of silver, gold, fabric, ceramics, glass and wood, as well as fashion accessories including jewellery, bags, hats and shoes. everything hand made and sold by the creators themselves.

divas at amsterdam central station sept / okt 2011

starting 21 september amsterdam central station will feature an impressive photo exhibition by ‘het wilde oog’. living by their motto, which translates as ‘observe wildly think nimbly’, the duo hans lemmerman and inge van run observe the world in their own unique way. 14 impressive panels will show traditionally clad divas from spakenburg posing at various dutch train stations.

uniquole advises hans lemmerman en inge van run and helped realise this exhibition at ns - the dutch railway. this exhibition lies close to uniquole’s heart, as she has a special appreciation for cultural heritage in combination with theatre and photography. uniquole’s personal collection even features a selection of pieces from the ‘het wilde oog’.

at the same time as the trade fair for design and craft ‘meesterlijk’ the via milano new dutch design foundation will present their yearly exhibition in the rai amsterdam!

each year a specialised committee selects the best designs presented in milan earlier in the year. this year the committee members are: thomas eyck, marianne van dodewaard and gilian schrofer.
.
work will be shown by edward van vliet, christien meindertsma, aldo bakker, maarten baas, bertjan pot, jorre van ast, students from the design academy eindhoven, droog design, ineke hans, paul heijnen, dirk van der kooij and many others.

dutch book printing in the grand palais

the salon d’automne in paris is a yearly art exhibition for decorative art, book printing, painting and sculpture. the salon was first organised in 1903 and soon after became one of the main platforms for innovations and developments in 20th century art. some of the artists that have featured in past years are pablo picasso, paul cezanne, rene lalique and le corbusier.

this year marja scholtens’ work has been selected in the livres d’artistes category. uniquole advises scholtens in her international positioning. her work is acquired by museums and collectors and is considered to be at the top of dutch book printing art, a form of hand printing that is slowly becoming more popular.

finding a new use for vacant buildings presents an inspiring challenge for uniquole. ranging from old factory halls, underground centres and warehouses to palaces, each project aims to realise the full potential of the space in keeping with the clients wishes by researching the buildings history and potential and creating an original concept.

use iconic vacant buildings to bring temporary exhibitions, presentations and projects to the public’s attention. walking through a reinterpreted historical building or an urban eye catcher can bring a new dimension to many projects.

lecture for vredeman de vries design prize 2011

the vredeman de vries prize will be awarded on friday 14 october. the prize is given to architecture one year, and design the next. in 2011 the prize will be awarded to design and uniquole will write and present the accompanying lecture.

the prize was established in 2000 by the province of friesland. each year the winner is chosen by a jury, but there is also a prize awarded by public vote. in 2003 royal tichelaar makkum won the design prize, and in 2005 claudy jongstra.
.
vredeman de vries was one of the most influential 16th century artists, known for his publications, designs, ornamentation and his command of perspective. he was a great designer but most of his designs were never carried out. he was also an international architect, engineer, art historian, illustrator and painter.
